Thanks

Simply put, the Thanksgiving meal at Elizabeth’s family’s house has no rivals.   Kathie, Elizabeth’s mother, orchestrates the creation of a perfect feast.   After you have read the menu below, you will understand the scope of what I am talking about here.  What always amazes me is how effortlessly the meal comes together in the final moments.  This is not to say that Kathie does not put in hard work…on the contrary, she labors furiously for many days prior to the feast.   Everything is homemade.  And then, almost magically, the dishes begin appearing and appearing. The rest is history and boy am I thankful!

Thanksgiving Dinner, November 22, 2001

  • Oven-roasted fresh free-range turkey
  • Bread stuffing with onions
  • Gravy with turkey pan drippings
  • Wild mushroom bread pudding with parmesan
  • Scalloped oyster stuffing
  • Corn roulade
  • Green bean casserole
  • Mashed Potatoes
  • Caramelized Brussels’s sprouts with bacon
  • Stewed red cabbage with bacon drippings and brown sugar
  • Whipped rutabaga with butter
  • Carmelized shallots with sherry reduction
  • Cranberries
  • Cornbread
  • Cheddar muffins
  • Sesame rolls
  • Sourdough rolls
  • Apple crisp with vanilla ice cream
  • Creme brulee
  • Peanut butter pie

Oh, by the way, there were only five of us eating!
