Sub? Hero? Hoagie? Grinder? Some places specialize in the sandwich.
Others offer up new takes on classic preparations. Whether it's lunch, bar
food, or a late night snack, NYC is home to more better sandwiches than any city
on earth. Here are my favorites:
-
The Horseshoe, Smith & Wollensky [spice marinated filet tips, sauted
onions, velveeta cheese on garlic butter grilled lobster roll bread]
-
The steak and cheese sandwich, Pastis [a crusty roll, sliced steak melted cheese
and frisee, served with amazing frites on a wood platter]
-
Cuban Sandwich, Blue Smoke [really tied for the #1 spot, this is the best
Cuban I've ever had! Lunch only]
-
Americanata, Sosa Borella [tuna melt with havarti on grilled country bread, also
served with great fries]
-
Turkey Club, The Viand [a classic rendition with perfectly roasted turkey, best
at the small Viand on Madison]
I did not include my top Chicken Sandwiches on this list.
Check them out here.
So I did not include a classic NYC deli sandwich. Maybe I should have.
Maybe I will. In any event, if you are craving pastrami or corned beef on
rye, try Katz's.
I hate, hate, hate to say that Ted's Montana Grill has an awesome grilled
chicken sandwich...but it does. You can get it just about any way, but I
recommend it with American cheese, bacon, and jalpenos...with their BLT Ranch
dressing poured on it.
