What was your first real drink? Vodka from your dad's liquor cabinet? Gin from someone else's dad's liquor cabinet? A whiskey sour the first time you went to a bar in Manhattan? A long island iced tea freshman year in college? Whatever is was, you have probably come a long way.  You had a vodka phase; you even had a trendy vodka phase.  Then tequila was cool.  Maybe you had the guts to try single malts.  But, the bottom line is that you always come back to Bourbon.  Good old Kentucky Bourbon made right in the USA.

The Top Five Bourbons:

  1. George T. Stagg: Real man's bourbon; usually clocked over 140 proof; very hard to find

  2. Black Maple Hill:  Where the hell did this come from? I know Kentucky, but why not until now!

  3. Makers Mark: Not the most expensive, but it is as good with ginger ale as it is on the rocks; nothing compares

  4. Pappy Van Winkle: Hard to find and hard to beat; drink neat.

  5. Elmer T. Lee:  Classic and amazing!

I have to give some credit to Jim Beam...the brand that got me started with this spirit!  Merry Christmas, Jimmy!

And keep an eye out for a new Bourbon called Angel's Envy.  When bourbon is aged in the barrel, a portion of it evaporates.  This is the angel's share.  What remains, is the angel's envy.

I like bourbon too much to only have a Top 5.  Here's a list of my 6-10:

6.  Noah's Mill

7.  Knob Creek Single Barrel

8.  Woodford Reserve

9.  Bulleit

10.  Makers 46
