I love an aggressive cook who likes to push the envelope. And I love a good (large) sandwich. With that in mind, I have to pay tribute to an individual who one day brought these worlds together. I don't know this guy. In fact, I don't even know his name. I came across a page he had on a blog many years ago. When I did my last bit of research trying to find the photos, I think he may have died...and someone kept his page alive. It is only fitting that I pay tribute to this Unknown Sandwich Master. (Rest in Peace, knowing you have changed my life!) Hopefully some day I will track down the blog page that still exists. Here's the story: One day, many years ago, the Unknown Sandwich Master is hungry. It's lunch time. He's living somewhere in the UK. He pops down to the local market to pick up a simple loaf of white bread and some other ingredients. He gets home, opens the bag of bread, and, much to his surprise, the loaf is sliced HORIZONTALLY! Not your normal vertically sliced loaf. Someone at the bakery put it through the slicer the wrong way. What would you do? Throw it away? Cut it 3 times vertically to make normal slices. Well, you are NOT the Unknown Sandwich Master! He seizes the opportunity and decides to make a multi-layer horizontal loaf GIANT. And he gets creative and goes with some different filling in each layer. He invents the Mega Club Sandwich. Beyond genius. Behold:
Note the inclusion of the one GBP coin and fork for scale. And, let's examine the cross-section:
From what I can tell: Top Layer: Ham Layer 2: Sausages Layer 3: Chicken Cutlet Layer 4: Cheese and lettuce Layer 5: Tomato? Layer 6: Roast Beef?
UNREAL. This dude would have made an awesome neighbor. So, someone please steal this idea: OPEN A SANDWICH SHOP WITH THIS THEME. BUILD LARGE SCALE MEGA CLUBS WITH DIFFERENT THEMES. SELL SLICES BY THE INCH. THINK ABOUT THIS: THE ITALIAN: CHICKEN CUTLET, PANCETTA, EGGPLANT, MOZZARELLA/BASIL, OVEN DRIED TOMATOES, ANCHOVY THE BBQ: PULLED PORK, COLESLAW, BRISKET, SAUSAGES, AMERICAN CHEESE, BURNT ENDS THE BREAKFAST PITTSBURGER: BURGER, EGG, FRENCH FRIES, COLE SLAW, CHEESE, BACON ETC. ETC. ETC. LET ME KNOW WHEN YOU OPEN THIS PLACE! |
