Was it the first time I got drunk? No, maybe that was a strawberry daiquiri at my grandfather's 75th. It was definitely the second time! Mom and dad throwing that great margarita party (back in the 70s) with the blender whirring away. It looked so good. Why were people acting so silly? I had to try it. Since then, I think I've had about a million! The great debate: frozen, rocks, or straight up? With or without salt? My preference has changed with the phases of my life. Today, I prefer rocks with salt. But I still appreciate a good frozen margarita...which has to be lime (no strawberry or other flavors unless it is before noon and you are hung-over). Since the margarita is synonymous with the summer, I figured now would be a good time to put together a list of the Top 5 Margarita's in NYC:
Whoa! Wait a minute! Did Schrohe put an Indian restaurant on the top of his list?????? He did. Tabla, which also happens to serve great food, mixes the best Margarita in NYC. Is it traditional? No (but the other 4 on the list are). They use a touch of tamarind and the result is amazing. Give it a try and let me know if you disagree! |
