I think there are more Italian restaurants in NYC that Italy. Many of them are pretty darn good. Selecting a Top 5 is a daunting task, but one that I have accepted joyously. My research is not complete...it is nowhere near complete. I will continue to research and research. Try new places and reaffirm the old...what a life. Anyway, after 7 years of research, I would like to publish my inaugural list. Let the controversy begin. (If I missed a place, let me know. Better yet, take me there.)
Yes, Mario Batali gets two in the Top 5. He deserves it for he is clearly Iron Chef Italian. Bravo Gianni? Just go there. Gianni will make you something special. Beppe, a newcomer teetering on the edge of the list, is worth a try! Some of my other favorite: Balato, Gino, Beppe, Sandro's, and Harry Cipriani. |
